Luminous Land

Jonathon Larsen’s linocuts glow with brilliant light tempered by the darkest blacks. Inspired by decades of road trips across Australia. Black and white linocuts have a luminous intensity. Clean white line is hard to achieve. The white seems to give off light. Linocuts force the artist to work with simplicity. The marks cut in the lino seem to have a symbolic nature. Ideas have accumulated with long term avoidance of focusing on landscape in my art practice. After many decades driving backwards and forwards across parts of Australia, I have found myself at the same places and wondering if I have been here before. Some of the work is from memory.
